A crashing noise in Pittsburgh’s South Side led to a man’s arrest after sheriff’s deputies found a stolen gun in his car and a shoe box filled with more than $25,000 worth of fake $100 bills in the trunk, officials said.
Tyriee Tuttle-Kasper, 22, of Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood was booked into the Allegheny County Jail on drug, firearms and counterfeit currency charges, Allegheny County Sheriff Chief Deputy Kevin Kraus said.
Deputies were patrolling the South Side when they heard a crash near East Carson and 10th streets at about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Kraus said. They attended to two vehicles to make sure the people inside were safe.
As a deputy approached Tuttle-Kasper’s vehicle, the suspect “could be seen frantically tossing items around in the back seat,” Kraus said.
The deputy then smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle, Kraus said. Tuttle-Kasper admitted he had marijuana on him but denied smoking it recently, Kraus said.
“Deputies ended up locating a plastic bag in the center console with suspected marijuana,” Kraus said.
While searching the car’s backseat, deputies found two handguns that state police said were reported stolen from Belle Vernon.
A search of the trunk turned up the fake $100 bills — a shoe box that contained fake money purporting to amount to $25,200.
