Storms wash away abutment of Thompson Run Bridge in Ross, closing lane
Allegheny County Department of Public Works crews shut down the southbound lane of Thompson Run Road between Radcliff Drive and Babcock Boulevard in Ross Friday due to concerns about the safety of the bridge.
Officials said a consultant handling the Thompson Run Bridge No. 3’s annual inspection discovered that a section of stone abutment had washed away due to recent storms, making the southbound lane of the bridge potentially structurally deficient.
A consultant is being brought in determine how the problem will be fixed. There is no timetable for a repair or when the road would be reopened.
Officials said stop signs will be used to control traffic in the area. Drivers are urged to use caution and take turns at the stop signs.
