A Mass on Sunday in Oakland will kick off the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh’s new Addiction Recovery Ministry.

The service will be for those with an addiction, others in recovery and their families and friends. The Mass will begin at 2:30 p.m. at St. Paul Cathedral on North Dithridge Street.

The new ministry has been established with grant funding and will be based out of St. Juan Diego Parish’s John Paul I Center in Sharpsburg, according to a news release.

The ministry will consist of regular meetings, one-on-one sessions with those abusing substances and monthly spiritual and education sessions. It is aimed at those who want to work with people who have substance abuse problems, people who are seeking recovery and others who have a loved one affected by an addiction.

Details about those sessions will be announced at the Sunday Mass.

Five discussions are planned through the summer:

• March 18, 7 p.m., Rodef Shalom Congregation, 4905 Fifth, Ave., Oakland.

• April 7, 2 p.m., Roots of Faith, 800 Main St., Sharpsburg.

• May 8 at 11 a.m., and June 9 at 2 p.m., John Paul I Center, 201 Ninth St., Sharpsburg.

• July 8, TBA, St. Bernard Parish, 401 Washington Road, Mount Lebanon.

A fundraiser to support the ministry is planned for Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. at the John Paul I Center. Tickets for a murder-mystery dinner theater are $50 per person. Order tickets online here.
