A man jumped from a second-story roof into an alley while trying to flee Pittsburgh police, police said.

The man was in serious condition in a hospital, public safety spokesman Chris Togneri said.

Zone 1 officers on patrol at the 3100 block of McClure Avenue spotted a man wanted for burglary and an illegal gun charge.

Officers tried to stop the suspect, but police said he ran and officers chased him at about 5 p.m., Togneri said.

Police said the man ran into the home of an acquaintance.

Although police and a police dog searched, they couldn’t find him .

Then officers checking the roof found him flat on his stomach on the roof.

Officers told him not to move, but the suspect jumped onto a neighboring roof and then another.

Then in an attempt to elude officers, the suspect then jumped off the roof of a two-story home into an alley, Togneri said.

An ambulance crew transported the suspect to a local hospital.

Police arrested another man in the house for allegedly hindering apprehension. His identity was not immediately released.

The investigation is ongoing.
