Suspended nurse practitioner accused of continuing to prescribe medications
A nurse practitioner is accused by federal authorities of practicing medicine and writing prescriptions after his license was suspended, according to a news release.
Larry J. Goisse Jr., 34, who owns Prime Psychiatric Care at two Allegheny County locations, was indicted this week by a federal grand jury on 294 counts. Goisse was released from jail on $25,000 unsecured bond into the custody of Greenbriar Treatment Center for inpatient treatment, according to court records.
Goisse’s license was suspended in July after a misdemeanor drug possession conviction, according to the indictment. But prosecutors allege he continued to prescribe drugs including Adderall, a medication used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, at his clinics in Bakery Square and Penn Hills, most recently on Jan. 24, according to the release.
The investigation started after several former employees notified the state in November and December that they believed Goisse was still practicing after his license had been suspended, according to court records.
“We moved quickly to ensure the safety of the public, but our investigation of this matter continues,” U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady said in a news release.
Goisse was ordered to surrender to the Drug Enforcement Administration any prescription pads and his registration number that allowed him to prescribe narcotics.
