Heavily armed Pittsburgh SWAT officers surrounded a home in the city’s Beechview neighborhood Tuesday afternoon after a woman said she was kidnapped at gunpoint by a man in South Park.

There were no injuries in the situation that began around 2:30 p.m. when the woman called police from a car parked in the 1300 block of Beechview Avenue to report the kidnapping and ask police to send paramedics because she was violently ill, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesman Chris Togneri.

The SWAT team was called because the woman told police that the armed man had gone inside a house on Beechview Avenue.

Officers went through the home, but did not find anyone, Togneri said.

The woman told police that she was in South Park when a family acquaintance abducted her at gunpoint and forced her into a car. She said that they drove around for a while before the man gave her some water, Togneri said. She said she became ill after drinking the water.

Police are trying to identify the man, described only as a white man with long hair, Togneri said. The investigation is continuing.
