A Swissvale man is now charged with criminal homicide after a November shooting ultimately left one person dead, according to a criminal complaint.
Courde Daye, also known as “Dae Dae,” allegedly shot an 85-year-old man several times in a North Braddock business on Jones Avenue on Nov. 20. Police later identified the victim as James Dent Jr., who died May 9 at UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh.
According to the complaint filed Aug. 20, police responded to Fa’s Market for a report of a man who had been shot. Police arrived to find Dent shot in the lower back, officials said.
An autopsy performed on Dent by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office showed he died of infection and lower body paralysis due to the gunshot wound to his back.
Witnesses told officers that Daye, then 20, walked into the business with an automatic rifle and began shooting, police said. Officers said they found eight shell casings.
Officers later discovered Daye was allegedly involved in a shooting at the business the night before in which a 46-year-old man was shot in the leg. He was taken to the hospital with a non-life threatening injury.
Daye was arrested Dec. 28 when officers found him inside an apartment in the 1800 block of West Street in Munhall. He was arrested at about 8 a.m. without incident.
Police said they found a loaded gun in the bathtub.
In addition to now facing homicide charges, Daye is facing multiple counts of aggravated assault, robbery and felony firearms violations.
