The Lazy River earned its name this summer.

The Sandcastle Waterpark attraction, where guests float along a quarter-mile on inner tubes, took its time and waited until the final few weeks of the season to start flowing again on Wednesday.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience while we completed necessary work,” said Tom Radovic, Sandcastle’s general manager.

The park announced the opening on its Facebook fans on Tuesday.

The Lazy River isn’t the only thing moving slower than normal this summer. Most parks experienced delayed openings because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Sandcastle, which normally opens Memorial Day weekend, didn’t open until July 11.

Last year, the Lazy River opened late because flooding, and then freezing, cracked its fiberglass, officials said. It needed some repairs this season as well, according to management.

According to the website, the park will be open the rest of this week and two full weeks after that for daily operating hours before it is only open on weekends through Sept. 7. Some of the attractions may be closed because of student employees’ school schedules.

Guests are encouraged to reserve a date in advance because of the pandemic and safety restrictions.
