On Oct. 27, 2018, a gunman opened fire inside the Tree of Life synagogue in Squirrel Hill, killing 11 worshippers and wounding two. It was the deadliest act of anti-Semitic violence in U.S. history. Four Pittsburgh police officers were injured by gunfire as they responded to the attack.
For the past year, people in and outside of the Jewish community in Pittsburgh and around the world have struggled through grief and trauma. They have resolved to rebuild and recover, with the memories of the victims ever present.
To capture the voices of people who were present that day, and who are dedicated to the healing, the Tribune-Review has produced a documentary video. The Trib conducted extensive interviews with survivors, family members of victims, community leaders and public safety officials.
