Multiple downed wires knocked out power to Duquesne Light customers across five communities Thursday morning.

Initially, about 1,600 customers in the Wilkins, Monroeville and Penn Hills areas were affected.

The cause of the downed wires was undetermined, Duquesne Light spokeswoman Niki Campbell said.

Duquesne Light was reporting about 600 customers without power as of about 8:15 a.m. Of them, 315 were in Monroeville and another 217 were in Wilkins.

Turtle Creek had 48 customers without power, Churchill had 28 and Penn Hills had four.

By 1:30 p.m., Duquesne Light had restored power to approximately 85% of customers. Crews hoped to restore power to all customers by late afternoon or early evening Thursday.
