Pittsburgh emergency responders saved the driver of this tri-axle truck after it overturned in Schenley Park on Wednesday morning. It is part of a work crew that was paving Serpentine Drive.

Pittsburgh emergency responders rescued a truck driver Wednesday after his tri-axle truck overturned onto a hillside in Schenley Park.

Police, firefighters and EMS were dispatched to Serpentine Drive near Bartlett Street around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a large truck on its side with the driver still inside, said Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesman Chris Togneri.

They found a tri-axle truck fully loaded with asphalt on its side on a hillside.

Togneri said the truck was part of a private contractor’s crew that is repaving Serpentine Drive.

The driver was alert when found by emergency responders.

Togneri said tow truck operators from McGann & Chester secured the truck to prevent it from slipping down the hillside.

Medics then scaled the hillside and freed the driver, who was transported to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in stable condition with back and shoulder pain.

Park rangers closed a trail below the hillside to prevent hikers from entering the area, and the truck was eventually removed.

City police are investigating the cause of the crash.
