Two more members of the 911th Aeromedical Staging Squadron based in Moon were mobilized Wednesday as part of the response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The airmen left Wednesday for New Jersey. They will join more than 150 other reservists who will be sent to locations across the country in support of the Air Force’s Joint Task Force New York–New Jersey that is helping medical providers in the region.

This is the second deployment of reserve medical professionals to be called to duty from the 911th to help with the pandemic. On April 5, 10 members of the 911th were sent to New York to help, the Air Force said.

“We are proud to have Steel Airmen representing the Pittsburgh community as part of the pandemic response team that is saving lives every day,” 911th commander Col. John F. Robinson said in a statement.

About 770 reservists have been deployed across the country, according to a release. The mobilization comes after a March 27 executive order signed by the president authorized reservists and National Guardsmen to be called to active duty.
