A new craft ice cream shop is coming to Castle Shannon.
The family-owned Graeter’s Ice Cream is opening a store April 5 on Mt. Lebanon Boulevard, according to a news release. Graeter’s has been around since 1870.
The store offers a variety of flavors, sundaes, milk shakes, old-fashioned sodas and candy.
A portion of proceeds from the grand opening celebration will benefit Pressley Ridge, an organization that provides services for children, adults and families that are facing difficult challenges and complex situations, the news release said.

The company creates craft ice cream using a French Pots, a small batch, artisanal method of production dating back over a century, the news release says.
The Cincinnati-based company remains family-owned and operated. It has more than 54 retail stores, including Wexford, and ships over 300,000 pints annually for online mail order sales. Graeter’s is also found in more than 6,000 grocery stores, including Giant Eagle, in 46 states.
“Our team is thrilled to expand our presence in Pittsburgh, “ said Chip Graeter, fourth-generation owner of Graeter’s Ice Cream, in a news release. “We’ve been eager to share the love of craft, French Pot ice cream with the South Hills community, and we’re excited to introduce new families to our scoop shop experience.”
