A Wilkinsburg man was arrested for allegedly robbing a boy in the borough.

Shawn Michael Perry, 23, is charged with robbery and other charges in connection with the incident.

Police say the robbery Tuesday occurred around 2:15 p.m. along the 800 block of Walnut Street.

“Officers arrived almost immediately and found an active, armed robbery in progress in the street,” Wilkinsburg police Chief Ophelia Coleman said. “The suspect was seen with a gun robbing a juvenile male victim in the street.

”The two appeared to be struggling and money was falling about them.”

The chief said Perry fled after seeing officers but was soon caught as he entered a home along Walnut Street.

A gun, a 38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver, was recovered and found to be reported stolen from Pittsburgh.

Money was also recovered and returned to the victim, the chief said.

Perry also is charged with receiving stolen property, carrying a firearm without a license, simple assault, resisting arrest and providing false identification to law enforcement.

Online court documents show Perry’s lodged in the Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh on $50,000 bond.

His preliminary hearing is set for June 18 before Magisterial District Judge Kim Marie Hoots.
