Traffic heading west on the double-laned William Penn Highway in Monroeville might move a little slower starting Monday, according to a PennDOT news release.

The road between Route 48 and Parkway East, also referred to as Business Route 22, will be restricted down to one lane from 7 a.m. April 27 to 6 p.m. April 29, depending on the weather.

PennDOT said motorists will be able to access the Parkway East and Turnpike on-ramps. There will not be any lane restrictions for those traveling east on William Penn Highway

Crews are expected to work on excavating the roadway and widening the shoulder. They also will relocate signs and poles and paint new lines.

According to PennDOT, other highway and bridge construction projects “remain paused as part of the commonwealth’s efforts to mitigate the spread of covid-19.”

The Monroeville project, however, is part of critical work that addresses safety needs “that could impede the ability for the movement of life sustaining goods and services,” said PennDOT.
