Woman dies in early morning fire in Munhall

A woman died early Wednesday morning when flames quickly spread through her Munhall home, according to authorities.

Firefighters arriving at the home in the 1200 block of Ravine Street shortly after 1 a.m. encountered heavy smoke pouring from the windows of the one-story frame house, according to emergency dispatchers.

Within minutes of arriving, firefighters were able to pull the woman from the house and transport her to a hospital, where she later died.

It took about an hour to bring the fire under control, according to Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner identified the victim as Helen Leskanic, 87.

One firefighters was taken to Jefferson Hospital for treatment of heat exhaustion, the TV station reported.
