YWCA Greater Pittsburgh's Downtown building is on the market
YWCA Greater Pittsburgh’s building on Wood Street Downtown is on the market, its leader said Tuesday.
The move was in the works before the coronavirus pandemic and is part of the YWCA’s new organizational strategy to focus its resources to supporting race and gender equity, especially for women of color, according to YWCA Greater Pittsburgh CEO Angela Reynolds.
“The board of directors made a decision looking at staffing needs and what we needed in terms of space,” Reynolds said.
Several floors of the 88,000-square-foot building, which has four above-ground stories and three that are underground, are unused. At one point, 130 people worked in the building, but prior to the pandemic only 22 of the YWCA’s 60 employees were working there, according to a news release.
The YWCA will continue to operate its Early Child Development and Education center in the Homewood-Brushton neighborhood and is looking for space for its administrative offices, Reynolds said.
The organization has hired Jones Lang LaSalle Americas Inc. to market the property. There wasn’t yet an online listing for the building on Tuesday.
A restaurant and Point Park University’s Center for Media Innovation also lease space in the building.
