Three men face criminal charges after a robbery and shooting in Pittsburgh’s East Allegheny neighborhood Saturday morning, the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday.
Duwayne Carey, 61, William Roberson, 61, and Raymond Paul Conti, 43, all of Pittsburgh, are being held in the Allegheny County Jail, according to online court records.
The trio is accused of conspiring to rob a resident on the fourth floor of the Pressley Street High Rise building.
One man was shot in the chest during the robbery, police said. The victim has not been identified.
Four victims in the apartment at the time of the robbery reported that Carey walked in asking for change for a $100 bill, according to criminal complaints against the defendants.
Shortly after, two men with masks and guns barged in, demanding money.
Pittsburgh police, who investigated the incident, allege Roberson shot one of the victims in the chest while Conti stole money from another victim.
According to the complaints, the suspects took a drawstring bag from the man who was shot. It contained about $3,000.
A second victim was robbed of about $30 at gunpoint in the apartment, according to the criminal complaint. The victim also told police a ring was taken during the incident.
Police identified the three through surveillance footage and victim statements, the district attorney’s office said.
Investigators said Roberson told detectives Conti had called to ask if he wanted to rob a drug dealer to make some “quick money.”
Roberson told police that he, Carey and Conti didn’t have much of a plan “other than going in” to rob the apartment, according to authorities.
Conti told police that Carey devised a plan for the robbery after buying drugs from a dealer in the apartment and seeing a large amount of cash there, the complaints said.
According to the complaint, Conti told officers that Carey gave him a fake gun and provided Roberson with a small-caliber weapon.
All three suspects are scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 25.
