Legislation introduced to Pittsburgh City Council on Tuesday would allocate about $12 million to purchase new vehicles and related equipment for city departments.
The purchases, part of the 2022 capital budget, would be partially funded by American Rescue Plan dollars, a federal stimulus package designed to help a pandemic-ravaged economy.
The measure would include purchasing the Department of Public Safety a special event ambulance for $158,000, 24 patrol SUVs for over $1.3 million and two live animal trucks for $160,000.
Two electric recycling trucks — totaling a cost of $1.1 million — would be purchased with American Rescue Plan money.
The measure would include several investments in electric and hybrid vehicles, including electric cargo vans, electric pick-up trucks, electric sedans and hybrid pick-up trucks, which would be used by various city departments.
More than $200,000 would be designated for electric vehicle infrastructure.
The proposal also includes over $977,000 for a fire truck lease and over $2 million for five garbage trucks.
Councilman R. Daniel Lavelle introduced the measure Tuesday. It could be ready for a final vote in two weeks.
