Pittsburgh man pleads guilty to robbing a Dormont bank in December
A Pittsburgh man pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge stemming from a December bank robbery in Dormont.
Ahmed Asiri, 26, of the city’s Brookline neighborhood, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Marilyn J. Horan.
Authorities said he robbed the Dollar Bank along the 3000 block of West Liberty Avenue around 3:45 p.m. Dec. 7.
Asiri was wearing a surgical mask when he handed a note to a teller demanding money, according to Allegheny County Police.
He said he would kill people unless his demands were met, but no weapon was observed, police said.
Asiri made off with $20,000 in cash.
Dormont Police later received a tip and executed a search warrant at Asiri’s house, where they said they found the stolen cash and other evidence.
The FBI Violent Crime Task Force was assisted by Dormont, Allegheny County and Pittsburgh police.
Asiri was arrested on Dec. 8.
Horan scheduled sentencing for 10:30 a.m. June 21.
Asiri could be ordered to serve a maximum of 20 years in prison, pay a $250,000 fine, or both.
