Pittsburgh man sentenced to about 9 years for federal drug and gun crimes

Vaughn Malone of Pittsburgh was apprehended in August 2020 after Allegheny County and Pittsburgh police found drugs and guns in his Spring Hill apartment.

A Pittsburgh man has been sentenced to nearly nine years in federal prison after pleading guilty to drug and gun crimes, authorities announced Thursday.

Vaughn Malone, 35, of the city’s Spring Hill neighborhood, admitted to possession with intent to distribute quantities of cocaine, cocaine base and methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of this drug trafficking crime, according to U.S. Attorney Cindy K. Chung.

Federal Judge Robert John Coville of the Western District of Pennsylvania sentenced Malone to 57 months for possessing with intent to distribute the aforementioned narcotics and with an additional 60 months (five years) for possessing firearms in furtherance of this drug trafficking crime, for a total of 117 months of confinement.

He was also sentenced to three years of supervised release afterward.

Malone was arrested Aug. 26, 2020 by Allegheny County Police after detectives discovered drugs in his Spring Hill home. He was suspected of selling cocaine out of the residence.

On March 9, 2021, Mr. Malone was indicted on three counts of violating federal law by a federal grand jury on March 9, 2021.

He pleaded guilty to two counts this past March, authorities said..

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Allegheny County Police conducted the investigation.
