Pittsburgh Mayor-elect Ed Gainey to be inaugurated in virtual ceremony
Pittsburgh Mayor-elect Ed Gainey said Tuesday that his inauguration will be held virtually.
He said he decided to hold his inauguration and swearing-in ceremony virtually “in accordance with guidance from public health officials.”
The inauguration, scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, will be streamed live on the city’s YouTube channel, Comcast channels 13 and 14, Verizon channels 44 and 45, the city’s Facebook and the city’s Twitter.
On Sunday, there will be an Interfaith Prayer for Pittsburgh’s Future streamed through Gainey’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
This comes after Gainey last week moved an event announcing details of his transition team to a virtual platform after receiving false-positive results from a covid-19 test.
Gainey will be the city’s 61st mayor and Pittsburgh’s first mayor of color.
Pittsburgh City Council will host its swearing-in ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday. Council members Theresa Kail-Smith, R. Daniel Lavelle, Erika Strassburger and Anthony Coghill were reelected to new terms in the November election. Council also will vote to appoint a council president on Monday. Kail-Smith currently holds that role.
