Pittsburgh Opens events aim to draw people back to Downtown
Pittsburgh is holding a series of events aimed at bringing people back to the city’s Downtown as it looks to bounce back from the covid-19 pandemic.
The events, dubbed Pittsburgh Opens, look to build on efforts to reconnect returning workers with the Downtown neighborhood and revitalize the area with live music performances, pop-up food services, drink offerings and other attractions.
The first event will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at U.S. Steel Plaza.
“Pittsburgh Opens is a unique opportunity to experience our city’s hospitality and we look forward to working with our partners to make this series memorable and enjoyable for everyone,” Mayor Ed Gainey said.
The event will feature free music performances from DJ TeeJay, Mani Bahi & The Mob and Isaiah Small and his band of Pittsburgh musicians.
Food and drink options will include craft beer from Braddock-based Brew Gentlemen and food from local restaurants.
The Pittsburgh Penguins mascot Iceburg will make an appearance and raffle off four sets of tickets for Thursday night’s game against the Boston Bruins.
Those attending will be able to pick up Downtown Pittsburgh EDGE cards, which provide special offers and discounts at more than 40 Downtown restaurants and retailers.
“We are excited to partner with Mayor Gainey to welcome the region back to Downtown,” said PDP President and CEO Jeremy Waldrup.
Pittsburgh Opens events will be held monthly. Details on upcoming events will be posted on the Downtown Partnership’s website.
