A 5-year-old girl escaped injury late Wednesday when the vehicle in which she was a backseat passenger was hit with bullets during a shooting in Mt. Washington, according to Pittsburgh Police.

The driver was taken to a hospital in stable condition for treatment of a gunshot wound to the back.

Police said they were dispatched to Estella Avenue around 10:30 p.m. for a ShotSpotter alert that indicated 11 rounds had been fired in the area. The wounded man drove himself to a Pittsburgh EMS station with the girl in the car.

A dark-colored Dodge Durango was seen leaving the scene of the shooting, police said. It had a Pennsylvania license plate MBR-9566. Anyone with information is asked to call police headquarters at 412-323-7800.

The child was returned to her family. The vehicle she was in, and others in the area, had damage from bullets, police said.

No arrests had been announced.
