Pittsburgh police investigating 'abhorrent racist graffiti' at Quarry Field

Pittsburgh Police are investigating racist graffiti sprayed across the concession stand at Quarry Field in the South Side Slopes. Authorities said the tag “Orez” was sprayed in the same paint as the offensive messages.

Pittsburgh police launched an investigation Monday after “abhorrent racist graffiti” was discovered in a South Side Slopes park, authorities said.

The graffiti was painted on the concession stand at Quarry Field near the intersection of South 18th and Crosman streets, officials said. Police are investigating, and public works crews are cleaning and covering the graffiti.

“Disgusting and hateful actions like these have no place in our city and will not be tolerated,” Mayor Bill Peduto said in a statement. “Law enforcement will work to identify and prosecute whoever did this to the fullest extent of the law.”

He said the city will work to fund a full restoration of the concession stand.

Police said the tag “Orez” was painted in the same color as the racist messages. Authorities released photos of the tag with the offense language cropped out, and they asked anyone with information to contact police at 412-323-7800.
