Pittsburgh Public Schools closes all schools, cancels activities Tuesday
Pittsburgh Public Schools officials announced all schools will be closed and activities, including grab and go meals, are canceled Tuesday.
Three schools will also transition to remote teaching and learning when students return Wednesday as part of covid mitigation efforts, according to the district.
Officials said Pittsburgh Allderdice High School, Pittsburgh Chartiers Early Childhood Center, and Pittsburgh Dilworth PreK-5 facilities will be closed through Monday after the number of positive covid-19 cases in each facility reached the 5% threshold this past weekend.
No one will be permitted inside the facilities, and all activities at those schools are canceled until Monday.
However, grab and go meal service will be available at each location from 9 a.m.-noon.
Officials have also instituted rolling building closures as part of the covid mitigation.
The following facilities will be closed until Friday:
· Pittsburgh Arsenal 6-8
· Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12
· Pittsburgh Concord PreK-5
· Pittsburgh Schiller 6-8
· Pittsburgh Sunnyside PreK-8 (No Grab and Go)
· Pittsburgh Woolslair PreK-5
The following facilities will be closed until Thursday:
· Pittsburgh Brookline PreK-8
· Pittsburgh South Brook 6-8
Interim Superintendent Wayne Walters posted a message Saturday on the district’s website about how the covid has impacted Pittsburgh Public Schools, and praised the families and staffers for how they are handling the pandemic.
“The covid-19 pandemic has proven that opening our district doors was just the beginning of a long road ahead,” Walters’ message read. “Maintaining the health and safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. Our mitigation strategies of universal masking, physical distancing, vaccinations, and covid-19 testing are in place to limit the spread of covid-19 and disruptions to in-person learning. Thank you for the steps you have taken to keep our school communities healthy. Your efforts to keep students home when they are ill and ensure students stay up to date on their vaccinations significantly support our mitigation strategies.”
