Pittsburgh Public Schools announced Sunday that it will close the Pittsburgh Obama Academy school in the city’s East Liberty neighborhood on Monday after a second staffer tested positive for covid-19.

A staff member tested positive at the school last week, prompting the district to deep clean the facility on Friday. Then on Sunday, the school district received notification that a second staffer tested positive for covid-19.

The latest staff member testing positive for the coronavirus was last in the facility on Thursday, according to a school district press release.

Both staff members wore the required personal protective equipment and maintained social distancing, according to the school district. However, the facility will not open tomorrow because is is following health department guidelines requiring the school for cleaning.

The closure will impact families and students who visit for Grab and Go meals as well as the Tech Resource Center.

Families can visit the Grab and Go located at Pittsburgh Sunnyside, 4801 Stanton Ave. from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Families needing Tech support can visit the Technology Resource Centers located at CAPA, Carrick or Langley by making an appointment online.
