Spring Garden Early Childhood facility in the Pittsburgh Public School District is closed until Wednesday after a second staff member tested positive for covid-19, officials announced.

The employee was last in the building on Nov. 24, according to Ebony Pugh, public information officer.

“While the location has been closed since (Thanksgiving), the additional days will allow for sufficient contact tracing,” Pugh wrote in a release.

Staff was notified by email.

Pittsburgh Public Schools began the year in remote learning and returned a small number of students to the classroom on Nov. 9.

Despite the reduced number of people in the buildings, the district was plagued by repeated closures as both students and staff tested positive for covid-19 in various sites, including Arsenal, Obama and Westinghouse.

The district reversed course and returned to a virtual learning model on Nov. 16.
