Soaking in the sun at Pittsburgh’s pools may be a little more comfortable this year.
Mayor Corey O’Connor on Wednesday announced the city purchased nearly 300 new chairs and loungers that will be available when pools open June 15.
The seats will be spread among pools citywide based on deck space and pool attendance numbers, officials said.
People can use the chairs on a first-come, first-served basis.

Season passes for the city’s pools are available now at Oliver Bath House in the South Side neighborhood. Starting opening day, passes will also be available at all outdoor pool locations.
Passes are valid through May 2027. They cost $30 for adults, $20 for people over 60 or $60 for a family of four. Pools are free for kids under 15 who live in the city. Free passes are also available for disabled veterans, active duty military and activated reservist guard members.
As Pittsburgh prepares for pool season, the city is recruiting lifeguards. Applicants can fill out a form to be trained and certified, with the next class starting May 6.
