Michelle Beaver of Delaware speaks to the media about a road rage incident that ended in gunfire along Banksville Road on the border of Banksville and Beechview on Friday, Oct. 2, 2020.

A road rage incident in Pittsburgh’s Banksville neighborhood ended in gunfire Friday, sending two people to the hospital, police said.

The incident happened about 12:15 p.m. on Banksville Road near the Eat n’ Park and Days Inn.

Police said they believe the driver of a silver pickup truck ran the victims’ car off the road and then opened fire. The driver of pickup took off, and police were still searching for him about three hours later.

Michelle Beaver was sitting in her car in the parking lot of the nearby Comfort Inn when she said she saw what she believed to be a pickup truck chasing another car. She said the car turned into the hotel’s parking lot as if to get away from the pickup.

“I knew it was road rage because (the pickup driver) kept pushing and hitting the (other) vehicle,” said Beaver, who is in town from Delaware on business.

She said the driver of the pickup got out and jumped on to the other car, and she heard three loud pops. She said she ran to get a photo of the pickup and its license plate.

Police said two people in the SUV were injured: A man was shot in the face and a woman suffered a back injury and a possible graze wound. Both were taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Beaver said there was a child in the car as well, and she comforted him until family members came for him.
