Pittsburgh city officials on Wednesday released a draft of its Oakland Plan and have scheduled two upcoming public meetings later this month about the neighborhood.

The plan contains goals, policies, and a vision for the Oakland neighborhood, officials said.. It provides information on projects and programs for organizations, institutions, and public sector partners in Oakland to complete over the next 10 years.

Pittsburgh Deputy Director of City Planning Andrew Dash said the plan will offer details about rezoning proposals to encourage goals for Oakland residents: job creation and affordable housing.

“Our goal with neighborhood planning is to empower residents to take an active role in their community’s future,” said Dash in a press release. “This draft is the culmination of over two years of work in the Oakland neighborhood and will encourage continued growth for years to come.”

The plan’s release comes in light of recently proposed zoning changes for the Oakland Crossings development, which is looking to add multi-family residential units, a grocery, and increased greenspaces to Central Oakland.

Two virtual public meetings will be held for people to learn more about the Oakland Plan. One on March 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, and another on March 23, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

People can also review the plan and comment online on the Oakland Plan website.

Hard copies of the plan can be viewed at the Oakland Planning & Development Corporation office, Frazier Fieldhouse at Dan Marino Field and Friendship Community Church.

Comments will be accepted through April 6. The plan will then be presented to the city’s Planning Commission on April 19.
