Pittsburgh’s Department of Mobility and Infrastructure said it plans to begin installing traffic calming features in Homewood South on Thursday.
The work on Kelly Street between La Schall and Collier streets will include placing eight speed humps to reduce vehicle speeds. The city said signs and pavement markings would be installed to alert motorists of the speed humps.
Data collected last year showed that more than half of the vehicles driving on Kelly Street traveled above the posted speed limit of 25 miles an hour. Officials said that data, along with the history of crashes in the corridor, spurred them to do the work there.
Kelly Street will be closed to traffic during construction. Flaggers will be stationed at each end of the construction area to help motorists access their homes, the city said.
The project is expected to take two days, weather permitting. Construction will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
