Pittsburgh City Council on Tuesday approved allocating about $12 million to buy new vehicles and equipment for several city departments.
Money to buy new vehicles was included in this year’s capital budget, and the purchases will be partially covered by American Rescue Plan funding.
The purchases include buying the Department of Public Safety a special event ambulance for about $158,000; 24 patrol SUVs for more than $1.3 million; and two trucks to transport live animals for $160,000. The city also will spend more than $977,000 for a fire truck lease and more than $2 million for five garbage trucks.
American Rescue Plan funding will be used to buy two electric recycling trucks for about $1.1 million.
The measure also includes spending more than $200,000 for electric vehicle infrastructure.
