Pittsburgh’s hazardous materials team was called to the Strip District on Friday night for what officials determined to be an ammonia leak.

Crews responded to Consumer Fresh Produce Inc., located at 1 21st St., for reports of a strong gas odor. After inspecting the building, which is a large cold storage facility, officials found the ammonia leak on the roof.

While the leak does not present a hazard, crews said the smell will linger, especially at night as cooler air sinks to the ground.

Building management is on scene arranging for a contractor to fix the leak.
