A school van driver was arrested by Pittsburgh police on Friday afternoon after they say he fled the scene of a crash with a half-dozen children in the van.

Pittsburgh Public Safety officials said an initial report came in describing a collision on the north side of the 16th Street Bridge involving a school van and another vehicle.

Police said the van had six juvenile passengers about 10 years old, who began contacting their parents when the driver allegedly fled the scene.

Police said no one was injured in the crash.

Around 4:15 p.m., Mt. Oliver Police identified the van and stopped it at the intersection of Becks Run Road and Wagner Street.

All six children were safely released to family members, police said.

The driver, who police did not identify, said he had drank alcohol earlier in the day. He was taken to Allegheny County Jail.

City police expect to charge him with driving while intoxicated, along with violations related to the crash.
