Plum residents can expect to see development in the borough soon.
Council members voted unanimously Monday to support three businesses that hope to have a presence in Plum.
Aroma Joe’s, a franchise coffee and breakfast café, plans to open a spot along Route 286 next to Dollar General. The site is currently a vacant lot, but plans call for a 1,000-square-foot development and 12 parking spaces.
The shop would be the state’s second. There are numerous locations on the East Coast and one in Florida.
Chaffo Landscaping is planning to move to New Texas Road and to create a takeout pizza shop near the borough building. Plans call for a 4,800-square-foot development with 12 parking spaces.
The majority of the site will be for the landscaping side of the business, with 800 square feet designated for the pizza shop.
MVP Trucking plans to build a self-storage facility and an indoor athletic facility along Route 909 near Veltre’s Restaurant.
Site plans show about 28,500 square feet for the development, with 6,300 for storage. There are around 80 parking spaces, including four accessible spaces.
All three developments include new construction, Plum Manager Michael Thomas said. The borough planning commission recommended approval for all the site plans April 15.
“On this side of (Route) 380, where we have a lot of new residential development, there’s not a lot of retail shopping opportunities on this end of town,” said Thomas. “Any time we see any new retail development on this end of town, we’re happy to see that.”
Thomas said many athletic associations in Plum have a need for an indoor facility, and that having more dining options near Route 286 will be a welcomed addition to the community.
