Plum Borough Council held its first meeting at the new municipal building on Nov. 14.

The $12 million building is still partly under construction, and not all tenants have moved in yet, but it will be the site for council meetings going forward.

“Welcome to Plum’s new home,” borough manager Michael Thomas said to open the meeting. “It’s a pretty impressive building with a lot of features that are really going to benefit the community.”

Thomas mentioned a gym located on the bottom floor and an amphitheater that is being built as examples.

The building was originally approved in December 2020, and the contract was awarded to Rycon Construction. It is located at 2000 Old Mine Road, near the borough’s public works building and EMS station.

The previous municipal building will be turned into a retail center, with that consolidation plan being approved at the November action meeting. According to Thomas, the concept for the site include a gas station, convenience store, small grocery, restaurant and flexible retail space.

That plan includes four lots including a lot next to Nesbit Bowling and across New Texas Road from the former municipal building.

Council’s next voting meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 14, a change from the usual monthly schedule.
