Hundreds of folks packed the Logans Ferry Heights Volunteer Fire Department social hall for the start of fish fry season on March 7.

Department treasurer Justin Irwin said they went through a surprise inspection by the Allegheny County Health Department shortly before the start of the event. Everything met department standards.

The Lenten fish fry has been a tradition for more than 40 years at the Plum fire department at 1001 Summit Ave.

Chief Matt Austin said funds raised help with equipment purchases that grants do not cover. This year’s goal is $15,000.

The menu includes panko breaded cod, shrimp, crab cakes, macaroni and cheese, haluski, pierogies, cole slaw and hand-cut fries.

The hours of operation are from 4 to 8 p.m. Fridays and 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Good Friday.
