Seniors For Safe Driving is offering a mature driver improvement course from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 8 at the Plum Community Center.

The course is designed to help drivers 55 and older understand how aging affects driving abilities and provide insight about driving on today’s roadways.

The PennDOT-approved course comes with a minimum 5% discount on your auto insurance for three years, as mandated by state law. There is a standard course for first-time participants and a refresher course for returning participants.

Plum Republicans to host buffet dinner Oct. 14

The Plum Republican Committee is having a buffet dinner in support of local Plum GOP candidates at Pugliano’s Restaurant, 1808 Golden Mile Hwy in Plum. The dinner is Oct. 14 at 6 p.m., and tickets cost $40.

Guest speakers are Congressman Dan Meuser and Allegheny County GOP Chairman Sam DeMarco.

The buffet menu includes tossed salad, cole slaw, chicken piccata, meatballs, penne pasta, parsley red potatoes, green beans, coffee and soft drinks.

Markosek meet-and-greet scheduled for Oct. 20

A meet-and-greet session with Rep. Brandon Markosek serving the 25th Legislative District is set for 1 p.m. on Oct. 20 at Holy Family Parish, Our Lady of Joy Church Hall, 2000 O’Block Road in Plum.

Markosek will provide some background on his job responsibilities, committees he is serving on, what issues are pressing to him, and some information about the 25th district, which includes Monroeville and parts of Plum. After his talk he will be available to answer questions. An additional speaker from the Department of Aging is also invited to attend.

Refreshments will be served, and masks are strongly encouraged.

PALS plans Ladies Day Out

Plum Area Ladies Society is a service and social organization open to women from Plum, Penn Hills and surrounding communities.

Newcomers are welcome to attend PALS meetings, held on the first Wednesday of each month from September through April.

For Ladies Day Out, the ladies will celebrate Octoberfest at the Golden Goblet on Oct. 23 at 4 p.m. For more information, call Mary Lou at 724 327-8265.

Unity Golden Age Club

Unity Golden Age Club Inc. will meet at noon Oct. 18 at the Unity Community Church Café, 215 Unity Trestle Road in Plum.

The Monday Market is held Mondays through Oct. 25 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Plum Creek Park (Plum baseball fields), 1040 Ross Hollow Road.

Oakmont Carnegie Library offers a variety of free online programs. Director Beth Mellor hosts Tuesday Morning YouTube Storytime on Tuesdays from 10 to 11 a.m.
