Benefit concert planned

The Oaks Theater in Oakmont will host a benefit concert for the Rosedale Food Pantry in Penn Hills.

Doors at 310 Allegheny River Blvd. open at 1 p.m. Sept. 24. The show is scheduled for 2 to 5.

Entertainment includes Miss Freddye Blues Band, the Nied’s Hotel Band and special guest drummer Curtis Brown. There will be 50/50 raffles and gift baskets available.

Advance tickets are for a $25 donation. Admission at the door, if available, is a $30 donation.

The Rosedale Food Pantry helps local families in need by providing food assistance. They also have clothing drives.

The pantry primarily serves Penn Hills, Verona, Oakmont, Plum and Blawnox. Distribution is the first through fourth Wednesday of the month from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at 5501 Third St., Penn Hills.

Plum Distinguished Alumni

The new class of Plum Distinguished Alumni has been announced.

Inductees are Amy Davis McShane (1989), Mark Gorman (1978), Crystal Hall (1999), Josh Verbanets (2001) and posthumously, Joseph Grubich (1980).

The Plum High School graduates will be honored for their exemplary accomplishments at a banquet at the Oakmont Country Club Sept. 28.

Tickets to the banquet are $60. The invitation is available for download at plumdistinguishedalumni.com.

Hors d’oeuvres and cash bar starts at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6:30.

State Sen. James Brewster, D-McKeesport, is expected to give the alumni a proclamation at the event.

The induction ceremony and wall unveiling is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at the high school, 900 Elicker Road.

Elks soccer shoot

Oakmont Elks will hold their annual Soccer Shoot from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 23 at Larry Mills Park in Plum.

The shooting skills contest is open to all youth 15 and younger. There are five age categories for both boys and girls: U-16, U-14, U-12, U-10 and U-8.

The shooter’s age as of Jan. 1, 2023, will determine which group in which to participate. A parent or guardian should accompany the shooter to help with registration.

The first-, second- and third-place Winners in each category will be announced at 1 o’clock.

Flu, covid shots

The Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy will provide flu and covid shots from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Oakmont Borough Building, 767 Fifth St.

Shots are free with most insurance. Please bring your insurance card with you.

Flu shots are available for anyone 3 or older.

Fall craft festival

Plum Creek Lodge 799 Masonic Hall will host a fall craft festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 7 at 9521 Saltsburg Road, Plum.

Trunk or treat

Penn Hills Masonic Lodge (Infinity Lodge No. 546) is partnering with Verona’s Masonic Lodge (Verona Lodge No. 548) to host a Trunk or Treat 5-7 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Penn Hills Masonic Center, 5793 Saltsburg Road.
