Plum Class of 1985 to hold reunion

Plum’s Class of 1985 will host its 40th class reunion on Nov. 28 at Veltre’s Wedding Venue on Coxcomb Hill Road.

Organizers are seeking contact information for class members. Details about the reunion are available at the “Plum HS 1985 — 40 Year Reunion” Facebook page or via email at plum1985reunion@gmail.com.

The event will take place from 5 to 9 p.m.

Plum AARP meeting set for Aug. 12

Plum AARP will hold its August Social at its monthly meeting at noon on Aug. 12 at Unity Community Church. Turkey and ham sliders, chips and summer desserts will be served. Members may bring games to play, as there will not be a program.

Plum AARP is a social and service club open to residents of Plum, Penn Hills and surrounding areas. Meetings are held at noon on the second Tuesday of each month, except June, at Unity Community Church. For mor information, call Mary Lou at 724 327-8265.

Community center plans golf fundraiser

The Riverview Action Community Center is planning an 18-hole, four-person golf scramble fundraiser on Aug. 22 at Hill Crest Country Club in Lower Burrell.

Registration is now open, and eight packages are available. The price is $550 per foursome or $150 for an individual.

Check-in starts at 7:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 9.

Sponsors also are being sought for the event. Pricing ranges from $150 for hole sponsors to $1,500 for an event sponsor. For information about sponsorships, visit tinyurl.com/p4rsb3mr.

Proceeds benefit the programs and services that Oakmont-based RCAC offers to men and women in the surrounding communities.

Hard-to-recycle event at Boyce Park

The Pennsylvania Resources Council is set to hold a hard-to-recycle event at the Boyce Park Four Seasons Ski Lodge parking lot on Aug. 23.

The event will allow residents to recycle larger electronic items, tires and fluorescent tubes, among many other materials.

Participants must register in advance online. Disposal fees will also be charged to participants depending on the item.

The event is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A Paris Affair

Higgins Productions will be hosting the first annual Paris Affair at the Riverside Landings Event Center in Oakmont.

Beginning at 11 a.m. on Sept. 27, the event will feature 55 vendors and workshops on French décor, culture and travel tips. The event is free to attend.

Tickets for $75 to a VIP reception starting at 4 p.m. are available to purchase at parisaffairpgh.com.

The event will continue annually around the Pittsburgh area. It was invented to showcase the beauty in each business and to create meaningful connections in the area.

Group offers support for weight loss

All are welcome to join the men and women at Oakmont TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) who are learning how to lose weight.

With in-person meetings, rewards, support and encouragement, we gain knowledge of healthy eating and exercise.

You may visit with no obligation Tuesdays at 5:45 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1261 Pennsylvania Ave. in Oakmont. Weigh-in is private followed by a brief business meeting, sharing time, and educational program all ending by 7:15.

Food pantry offers help

The Plum Food Pantry, 81 Sandune Drive, distributes free food from 4:30 to 6 p.m. the first three Tuesdays of each month for Plum residents. Residents in need must stop in at the pantry to be certified/verified.

Association of University People

The Association of University People invites singles 50 and older who are four-year college graduates to join them for activities and to meet new people. Activities include spring/summer picnics, monthly dinners, a book group, Scrabble, meeting up at local outside concerts and wineries.
