Oakmont communications committee
Oakmont officials have formed a communications committee and a looking for more members.
Council members Amanda Pagnotta and Jennifer Paris are joined by the council’s student representative, Rocco Brown, to form the communications committee. The group focuses on enhancing communication within the community, including managing social media, website announcements and sharing updates on local issues and events.
Pagnotta said the committee is hoping to open the application to the public to diversify the group’s skill set. They are specifically in need of people with video editing skills.
The borough will be advertising on its website for two open volunteer committee positions.
Buzzed for a Cause
The Killer Bees cycling team will hold a fundraiser for the National MS Society from noon to 6 p.m. July 13 at Inner Groove Brewing in Verona.
The event will feature live music, food, raffle baskets, a flash tattoo artist on site, an exclusive Radler brewed just for the event and more.

Edgemede to host annual yard sale
Plum’s Edgemede neighborhood will host its annual garage and yard sale on July 12.
More than 30 homes will participate in the sale with the event set to go ahead rain or shine.
Those interested can pick up a list of participating homes at 510 Cresthaven Dr, Pittsburgh, PA 15239.
The sale will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Community center plans golf fundraiser
The Riverview Action Community Center is planning an 18-hole, four-person golf scramble fundraiser on Aug. 22 at Hill Crest Country Club in Lower Burrell.
Registration is now open, and eight packages are available. The price is $550 per foursome or $150 for an individual.
Check-in starts at 7:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 9.
Sponsors also are being sought for the event. Pricing ranges from $150 for hole sponsors to $1,500 for an event sponsor. For information about sponsorships, visit tinyurl.com/p4rsb3mr.
Proceeds benefit the programs and services that Oakmont-based RCAC offers to men and women in the surrounding communities.

Plum Class of 1985 to hold reunion
Plum’s Class of 1985 will host its 40th class reunion on Nov. 28 at Veltre’s Wedding Venue on Coxcomb Hill Road.

The event will take place from 5 to 9 p.m.
A Paris Affair
Higgins Productions will be hosting the first annual Paris Affair at the Riverside Landings Event Center in Oakmont.
Beginning at 11 a.m. on Sept. 27, the event will feature 55 vendors and workshops on French décor, culture and travel tips. The event is free to attend.
Tickets for $75 to a VIP reception starting at 4 p.m. are available to purchase at parisaffairpgh.com.
The event will continue annually around the Pittsburgh area. It was invented to showcase the beauty in each business and to create meaningful connections in the area.
Oakmont Hard to Recycle event slated
Registration is now open for the borough’s fourth annual Hard to Recycle event. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 30, participants can head to 731 Second St. to the drive-thru event hosted in partnership with Noble Environmental.
Accepted chemicals include paint or workshop products, automotive products, cleaning products, batteries, light bulbs, lawn and garden products, flammable materials and pool chemicals.
Accepted electronics include televisions, computers, printers, laptops, phones, window AC units, mini fridges and gaming devices.

Group offers support for weight loss
All are welcome to join the men and women at Oakmont TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) who are learning how to lose weight.
With in-person meetings, rewards, support and encouragement, we gain knowledge of healthy eating and exercise.
You may visit with no obligation Tuesdays at 5:45 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1261 Pennsylvania Ave. in Oakmont. Weigh-in is private followed by a brief business meeting, sharing time, and educational program all ending by 7:15.

Food pantry offers help
The Plum Food Pantry, 81 Sandune Drive, distributes free food from 4:30 to 6 p.m. the first three Tuesdays of each month for Plum residents. Residents in need must stop in at the pantry to be certified/verified.

Association of University People
The Association of University People invites singles 50 and older who are four-year college graduates to join them for activities and to meet new people. Activities include spring/summer picnics, monthly dinners, a book group, Scrabble, meeting up at local outside concerts and wineries.
