In brief: Plum, Oakmont area news, events for the week of June 16, 2025
Plum Council gives final approval for Geo-Solutions move
Plum Borough Council gave its final approval for two resolutions that allow New Kensington-based company Geo-Solutions to move to the borough.
The company plans to move into a multistory office building behind Plum School District’s bus garage while it develops a storage and maintenance facility on adjacent land at 1450 Greensburg Road — the former location of Golf Oasis.
It hopes to conduct the move by the end of the year and continue construction into 2026.
O’Block renovations OK’d by Plum Council
Plum Borough Council OK’d Plum School District’s land development plan for renovations and an addition at O’Block Elementary School.
Though some conditions apply to the approval, borough Manager David Soboslay said he expects the district to work through them quickly.
The renovations and addition are part of a $30 million, multiyear building project in the district that also includes improvements to the middle school.
Jury finds Oakmont rape suspect not guilty
An Oakmont man was acquitted by a jury of rape and sexual assault charges involving a teenage girl.
Jurors spent about four hours deliberating on June 4 in the case against Jeffrey Thomas McMeekin, 63, according to a court order.
He was found not guilty of 21 counts including rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and aggravated indecent assault.
McMeekin was arrested in mid-2022 by Allegheny Township police. The girl told police she was 17 and 18 years old when McMeekin sexually assaulted her multiple times in November and December 2021.
Testimony in the case began June 2. The accuser testified the next day.
Defense attorney Mike DeRiso said the outcome showed the alleged assaults were instead consensual sexual activity.
“It’s unfortunate that a case like that had to go to trial because there were so many indicators that were consistent with consent and they were brought out in the trial,” he said. “I certainly don’t condone those types of relationships, however there’s a difference between consensual and rape.”
