Zoning Hearing Board public hearing

An ongoing legal battle over a parking ordinance will be continuing through briefs rather than public debate, involved parties decided on June 24.

An Oakmont Zoning Hearing Board public hearing came to a quick adjournment when borough Solicitor Jacob Leyland and Lisa Siefert, and attorneys Thomas Breth and Thomas King III,, who represent Oakmont resident and local restaurant owner John Keefe, agreed to forgo verbal debate.

In an effort to enhance efficiency, all parties decided to skip future public hearings and rather submit facts, findings and arguments through documentation. A final decision and public vote will be made by the zoning hearing board within 45 days after Aug. 11.

Veterans car show at Plum High School

The Head Turners Pittsburgh chapter invites the public to its first Veterans Car Show, set for 12 to 4 p.m. July 5 at Plum High School.

Registration for cars is $10 and will be from 10 a.m. to noon. Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 entrants. There is no cost to attend. The afternoon will include food trucks, basket raffles, a 50/50, vendors and a DJ.

Proceeds benefit Ligonier nonprofit Veterans Anything With Wheels shows and events.

Edgemede to host annual yard sale

Plum’s Edgemede neighborhood will host its annual garage and yard sale on July 12.

More than 30 homes will participate in the sale with the event set to go ahead rain or shine.

Those interested can pick up a list of participating homes at 510 Cresthaven Dr, Pittsburgh, PA 15239.

The sale will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Community center plans golf fundraiser

The Riverview Action Community Center is planning an 18-hole, four-person golf scramble fundraiser on Aug. 22 at Hill Crest Country Club in Lower Burrell.

Registration is now open, and eight packages are available. The price is $550 per foursome or $150 for an individual.

Check-in starts at 7:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 9.

Sponsors also are being sought for the event. Pricing ranges from $150 for hole sponsors to $1,500 for an event sponsor. For information about sponsorships, visit tinyurl.com/p4rsb3mr.

Proceeds benefit the programs and services that Oakmont-based RCAC offers to men and women in the surrounding communities.

Plum Class of 1985 to hold reunion

Plum’s Class of 1985 will host its 40th class reunion on Nov. 28 at Veltre’s Wedding Venue on Coxcomb Hill Road.

A Paris Affair

Higgins Productions will be hosting the first annual Paris Affair at the Riverside Landings Event Center in Oakmont.

Beginning at 11 a.m. on Sept. 27, the event will feature 55 vendors and workshops on French décor, culture and travel tips. The event is free to attend.

The event will continue annually around the Pittsburgh area. It was invented to showcase the beauty in each business and to create meaningful connections in the area.

Oakmont Hard to Recycle event slated

Registration is now open for the borough’s fourth annual Hard to Recycle event. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 30, participants can head to 731 Second St. to the drive-thru event hosted in partnership with Noble Environmental.

Accepted chemicals include paint or workshop products, automotive products, cleaning products, batteries, light bulbs, lawn and garden products, flammable materials and pool chemicals.

Accepted electronics include televisions, computers, printers, laptops, phones, window AC units, mini fridges and gaming devices.

Group offers support for weight loss

All are welcome to join the men and women at Oakmont TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) who are learning how to lose weight.

With in-person meetings, rewards, support and encouragement, we gain knowledge of healthy eating and exercise.

You may visit with no obligation Tuesdays at 5:45 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1261 Pennsylvania Ave. in Oakmont. Weigh-in is private followed by a brief business meeting, sharing time, and educational program all ending by 7:15.

Food pantry offers help

The Plum Food Pantry, 81 Sandune Drive, distributes free food from 4:30 to 6 p.m. the first three Tuesdays of each month for Plum residents. Residents in need must stop in at the pantry to be certified/verified.

The Association of University People invites singles 50 and older who are four-year college graduates to join them for activities and to meet new people. Activities include spring/summer picnics, monthly dinners, a book group, Scrabble, meeting up at local outside concerts and wineries.
