Plum’s Monday Farmers Market is moving to a new spot

The Monday Farmers Market in Plum will now take place at the Plum Creek Presbyterian Church at 550 Center New Texas Road.

Running from June 2 to Aug. 25, the market will run each Monday from 3 to 7 p.m.

Along with varying food trucks, 20 vendors will appear at the market each week. The third Monday of each month will also showcase local craft vendors. A kids vendor date also will be announced.

Oakmont Hard to Recycle event slated

Registration is now open for the borough’s fourth annual Hard to Recycle event. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 30, participants can head to 731 Second St. to the drive-thru event hosted in partnership with Noble Environmental.

Accepted chemicals include paint or workshop products, automotive products, cleaning products, batteries, light bulbs, lawn and garden products, flammable materials and pool chemicals.

Accepted electronics include televisions, computers, printers, laptops, phones, window AC units, mini fridges and gaming devices.

Construction on Barnes Road begins

Barnes Road will be closed in both directions while Plum Contracting Inc. works in the area beginning May 19.

Residents are advised to avoid the area and follow posted detours.

Oakmont Presbyterian vacation bible school

Registration is open for Oakmont Presbyterian’s “Who is my Neighbor?” vacation bible school in June.

From 6 to 8 p.m. on June 9-11, the church invites children from kindergarten to sixth grade to learn about the parable of “The Good Samaritan.” Days will include music, crafts and games. Dinner will be provided to students for free each night.

On June 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., students are invited to an optional day trip to Camp Crestfield in Slippery Rock.

Riverside Community Church hosts Monday Night Unplugged

Riverside Community Church on Allegheny Avenue in Oakmont will begin a new series Monday Night Unplugged starting June 2.

Starting at 7 p.m. people are invited to come to the church for acoustic worhsip and discussions about scripture. There will be an open forum where attendees can ask questions.

This service will be held in addition to the church’s regularly scheduled Sunday morning services at 9 and 11 a.m. at the Oakmont location and 10 a.m. at the Pittsburgh Mills Campus.

A nursery for children 2 and younger will be available.

Verona accessible dock opening

Verona Borough officials, Friends of the Riverfront and Steel City Rowing Club are inviting the public to the opening day of the Verona accessible dock on June 1.

Starting at 9 a.m., people are invited to 101 Arch St. in Verona for a day of free, outdoor activities including a guided meditation, a “guided paddle” and tour of Sycamore Island, a yoga session, and a fishing demonstration.

The day will also include a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Food will be available for purchase.

Group offers support for weight loss

All are welcome to join the men and women at Oakmont TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) who are learning how to lose weight.

With in-person meetings, rewards, support and encouragement, we gain knowledge of healthy eating and exercise.

You may visit with no obligation Tuesdays at 5:45 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1261 Pennsylvania Ave. in Oakmont. Weigh-in is private followed by a brief business meeting, sharing time, and educational program all ending by 7:15.

Food pantry offers help

The Plum Food Pantry, 81 Sandune Drive, distributes free food from 4:30 to 6 p.m. the first three Tuesdays of each month for Plum residents. Residents in need must stop in at the pantry to be certified/verified.
