Plum Trunk-or-Treat
Plum’s trunk-or-treat celebration is set for Oct. 22. from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Costumed children will parade through the parking lot at the Plum Borough Building and stop at decorated cars to receive candy and other treats.
Adults must register each child who will attend the event. Registration is on the Plum Community Library website at plumlibrary.org.
October events in Verona
The Verona Chamber of Commerce will host a series of events for the fall season.
Kicking things off on Oct. 18 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in Railroad Park, the Chamber will host We’re Off to See the Wizard, a Wizard of Oz-themed fall event specifically designed for children.
The event will feature games, a costume contest, music and other family-friendly activities. The event is sponsored by Verona Giant Eagle, Off the Rails Barbeque and Jesse Dental Fusion.
On Oct. 23, the borough’s annual Trunk or Treat will be hosted at Railroad Park from 4 to 6 p.m., coinciding with Verona’s weekly farmers market.
Last but not least, the chamber will be hosting a Halloween costume parade on Oct. 25. Starting at 11 a.m., children are invited to parade around Verona’s business district, where participating local businesses will be offering candy.
Pre-Halloween ghost stories event on tap
A Campfire Ghost Stories event is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Four Seasons Activity Center at Boyce Park, 901 Centerview Drive.
Bring a chair or blanket for this free event sponsored by the Allegheny Parks Department.
Attendees can wear a costume for a chance to win a prize.
Local businesses painting Oakmont pink
Local realtor Lori Hummel is helping organize an ongoing Paint Oakmont Pink fundraising event in October that will benefit Glimmer of Hope, a Pittsburgh-based breast cancer foundation that fights breast cancer through research, programs and studies.
The event will partner with local businesses, Hummel said. Some of them will haves special products.
Oakmont Candle Works will be selling a pink candle throughout the month. Oakmont Bakery is selling a pink cookie. Oakmont Skin Care and Electrolysis LLC will also be putting out a product. Local Remedy Brewing will be selling a pink beer. A portion of proceeds will be donated to Glimmer of Hope, Hummel said.
Aside from special products, the fundraiser includes a screening of the movie “Pretty in Pink” at The Oaks Theater on Oct. 21.

RCAC plans open house
Riverview Community Action Corporation is hosting an open house from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at its center, 501 Second St., Oakmont.
Attendees can mingle with community leaders and chat with members of the RCAC team.
There will be live keyboard entertainment by Janet Knapp Graham, a charcuterie from Pickles & Pancetta and cookies from Oakmont Bakery.
No reservations are required, and everyone from the surrounding communities is welcome to attend.
Parking is available at St. Paul Baptist Church, 180 Delaware Ave.
RCAC’s activity center offers a monthly lunch menu as well as fitness, education and social activities to adults 60 and older.

Plum Class of 1985 to hold reunion
Plum’s Class of 1985 will host its 40th class reunion on Nov. 28 at Veltre’s Wedding Venue on Coxcomb Hill Road.

The event will take place from 5 to 9 p.m.
Group offers support for weight loss
All are welcome to join the men and women at Oakmont TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) who are learning how to lose weight.
With in-person meetings, rewards, support and encouragement, we gain knowledge of healthy eating and exercise.
You may visit with no obligation Tuesdays at 5:45 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1261 Pennsylvania Ave. in Oakmont. Weigh-in is private followed by a brief business meeting, sharing time, and educational program all ending by 7:15.

Food pantry offers help
The Plum Food Pantry, 81 Sandune Drive, distributes free food from 4:30 to 6 p.m. the first three Tuesdays of each month for Plum residents. Residents in need must stop in at the pantry to be certified/verified.

Association of University People
The Association of University People invites singles 50 and older who are four-year college graduates to join them for activities and to meet new people. Activities include spring/summer picnics, monthly dinners, a book group, Scrabble, meeting up at local outside concerts and wineries.
