Touch a Truck

After a several-year hiatus, the Fred Favo Memorial Touch a Truck Event is returning Sept. 14 for the first time since 2022.

More than 25 types of trucks and vehicles will be lined up on Allegheny River Boulevard between Pennsylvania and Washington Avenue. The event will feature children’s activities, a bounce house, music, food trucks, a 50/50 raffle and more.

The event is free to attend. Proceeds will benefit the Oakmont Lions Club and Oakmont Carnegie Library.

Oakmont Library meeting

Oakmont Carnegie Library officials are planning a town hall and residents are encouraged to attend.

The town hall will take place at 6 p.m. Sept. 17 in the library’s lower-level meeting room. During the meeting, members of the public will be given the opportunity to speak about how the library can best serve Oakmont, Verona and surrounding communities in the years ahead.

The meeting will be led by library officials and GBBN Architect representatives. The meeting will provide a chance for library attendees to guide what improvement they’d like to see in the library space.

Steelers talk

Ed Bouchette will share Pittsburgh Steelers stories during an informal question-and-answer session on Sept. 18 at Plum Borough Community Library. The event begins at 6:30 p.m.

Free senior resource fair

Holy Family Parish is hosting a senior resource fair from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sept. 25 at the Our Lady of Joy Church hall, 2000 O’Block Road in Plum.

The event will host 25 local businesses that provide boomer and senior products.

Life Options Pittsburgh (LOP) sponsors are part of a network of more than 80 local health and senior care experts. LOP addresses aging concerns, including care, medical, housing, legal, financial and other needs. LOP professionals will be on hand to answer questions on many topics and services.

Acorx pharmacy will provide free flu shots and blood pressure screenings.

Fall craft festival

The third annual fall craft festival is set for Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Plum Creek Masonic Lodge No. 799, 9521 Saltsburg Road.

A Paris Affair

Higgins Productions will be hosting the first annual Paris Affair at the Riverside Landings Event Center in Oakmont.

Beginning at 11 a.m. on Sept. 27, the event will feature 55 vendors and workshops on French décor, culture and travel tips. The event is free to attend.

Tickets for $75 to a VIP reception starting at 4 p.m. are available to purchase at parisaffairpgh.com.

The event will continue annually around the Pittsburgh area. It was invented to showcase the beauty in each business and to create meaningful connections in the area.

Library donations to be matched

The Oakmont Carnegie Library Board of Directors is asking for monetary donations during September, Love Your Library month.

Any donations of up to $500 made to the library made this month will be partially matched by the Jack Buncher Foundation, increasing its impact and helping the library to grow programs, update collections and maintain the historic building.

Donations are tax deductible.

First aid class open to community

The Riverview Community Action Corporation is hosting a First Aid Training Class from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Riverview Community Center, corner of Second Street and Delaware Avenue in Oakmont.

Participants will learn about first aid basics; medical, injury, environmental and opioid-associated emergencies; and preventing illness and injury.

The cost is $50 per person. There is no residency requirement to participate.

The class will be taught by members of the Lower Valley Ambulance Service.

The American Heart Association’s First Aid Program is designed for anyone with little or no medical training who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting or for those who need a course completion card for their job, regulatory need such as OSHA or other requirement.

Plum Class of 1985 to hold reunion

Plum’s Class of 1985 will host its 40th class reunion on Nov. 28 at Veltre’s Wedding Venue on Coxcomb Hill Road.

The event will take place from 5 to 9 p.m.

Group offers support for weight loss

All are welcome to join the men and women at Oakmont TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) who are learning how to lose weight.

With in-person meetings, rewards, support and encouragement, we gain knowledge of healthy eating and exercise.

You may visit with no obligation Tuesdays at 5:45 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1261 Pennsylvania Ave. in Oakmont. Weigh-in is private followed by a brief business meeting, sharing time, and educational program all ending by 7:15.

Food pantry offers help

The Plum Food Pantry, 81 Sandune Drive, distributes free food from 4:30 to 6 p.m. the first three Tuesdays of each month for Plum residents. Residents in need must stop in at the pantry to be certified/verified.

Association of University People

The Association of University People invites singles 50 and older who are four-year college graduates to join them for activities and to meet new people. Activities include spring/summer picnics, monthly dinners, a book group, Scrabble, meeting up at local outside concerts and wineries.
