Event organizers hope a new October celebration in Oakmont becomes an autumn tradition.

Oakmont Chamber of Commerce presents its inaugural Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 12.

Allegheny River Boulevard will be blocked off from Pennsylvania to Washington avenues for the family-friendly event, sponsored by Greater Pitt Tree Service.

“We want to bring our community together and let other people know about our great business district,” said Tara Goldberg-DeLeo, co-owner of Mystery Lovers Bookshop and one of the event organizers. “This will be a wonderful opportunity for everyone to enjoy the beautiful fall weather and see all that Oakmont has to offer.”

Goldberg-DeLeo said she and three other event organizers began planning for the festival in August.

Activities include live music, face and pumpkin painting, arts and crafts, a bounce house with obstacles, food and other vendors and a scarecrow decorating contest.

Completed scarecrows will be hung throughout the borough.

National cartoonist and Charles M. Schulz Museum resident cartoonist Joe Wos will be on hand for an illustrated story time for children.

Fall Festival is the latest addition to a packed calendar of chamber events. Its Hometown Christmas and parade is set for Nov. 23 and Christmas home tours Dec. 8.

“This is more unique because there’s going to be a lot more interactive opportunities to have fun,” Goldberg-DeLeo said. “I think it’s going to be a fun time for the community.”
