Motorcycle units lead the Verona-Oakmont annual Memorial Day Parade in May 2017.

Plans for the annual Verona and Oakmont Memorial Day Parade have been set.

Lineup is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Fraternal Order of Eagles lodge, 315 James St. in Verona.

Parade kicks off at 9:30 a.m. and travels along Allegheny River Boulevard to Pennsylvania Avenue in Oakmont.

Participants include local Boy Scout troops, Riverview High School marching band, Plum Air Force Junior ROTC, Verona and Oakmont fire and police departments as well local American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars motorcycle clubs.

A 21-gun salute and wreath presentation will take place at the canon and Doughboy statue in Verona and at the Carnegie Library of Oakmont.

“It’s a nice parade,” said Pasquale Macioce, Verona resident and parade coordinator. “We keep everything real tight. Anytime you can honor our veterans is a great thing. That’s what Memorial Day’s all about.”

A service will take place following the parade at the Oakmont-Verona Cemetery. There will be a guest speaker and a choir, comprised of members of various local churches, will perform.

A luncheon for parade participants is planned at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church at 387 Maryland Ave. in Oakmont.
