News briefs: Plum Borough School District launches school-by-school covid tracker
Plum Borough School District has released a covid-19 case tracker. The webpage tracks the total number of cases the school district has had since the start of the year. It also tracks active cases and ogoing and ended quarantines among staff and students. Visit the district’s website to find the data.
As of Dec. 1, the district has reported 65 cases of the new coronavirus. Of those, 43 represent students and 22 are staff. Below is a breakdown of the cases by school building.
Plum Senior High: 36
Oblock Junior High: 10
Holiday Park Elementary: 4
Center Elementary: 2
Pivik Elementary: 4
Trib Total Media offers pair of scholarships
Trib Total Media is now accepting applications for both the Scholarship for Diversity in Media and the Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship.
The Scholarship for Diversity in Media is open to high school seniors who are culturally, ethnically or racially diverse and are planning to study journalism, communication or English writing at a four-year college or university.
The scholarship will include financial assistance of up to $7,500 per year for four years, a guaranteed annual internship with Trib Total Media and an offer for full-time employment upon graduation.
The Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship is offered to high school or college students attending — or planning to attend — a four-year college or university to study journalism, English writing or communication. The recipient will earn up to $30,000 in scholarship money awarded in annual installments of up to $7,500, an annual internship with Trib Total Media and an offer for full-time employment upon graduation.

The deadline to apply is Jan. 31.

Glass recycling available
Glass recycling dumpsters will be placed at the Second Street parking lot at Riverside Park and at the Creekside Park parking lot through Dec. 18.
Items accepted include glass bottles, jars and jugs. Cut glass, stemware, glass bakeware, porcelain ceramics, window glass, light bulbs, televisions and monitors will not be accepted. Call 724-929-7694 or email info@countyhauling.com for more information.
Plum’s Forbes students move to virtual learning
Forbes Career & Technology Center students from Plum School District will learn virtually through Jan. 4.
The district had switched to all remote learning until early next year due to rising covid-19 cases.
Plum High School Principal Joe Fishell said Plum’s Forbes students will follow the district’s schedule even though Forbes is in the hybrid model with students from other schools attending in-person classes.

Stormwater meetings set
Plum’s stormwater task force will host quarterly public meetings to update residents about project developments and other related activities.
Its monthly meetings will remain closed-door sessions. Its minutes are posted via the borough’s website, plumboro.com.
